Getting started with Loyalty Trails for Shopify.

Launch status

Loyalty Trails is being tested before its public App Store launch. These instructions describe the application; a public installation link will be added after Shopify approval.

1. Open the app and choose your language

Open Loyalty Trails from your Shopify admin. The admin supports English, German, Italian, Spanish and Hungarian. Shopify handles your app subscription; no separate payment-card form is required in Loyalty Trails.

2. Build your trail before enabling it

Choose a design, point name, colors and icons. Set the amount spent per point, trail length and reward milestones. The live program uses the store’s currency: HUF, EUR or USD. Configure and check the financial rules before the first qualifying order. Once order history exists, these rules are locked to protect already-earned rewards.

Choose an icon from the available options or upload a suitable icon. Customize labels in the supported languages.

3. Configure rewards

Gift products must be active products available for a one-time purchase. Gift cards and subscription-only products are not supported as gifts. Ensure the product is available to the Online Store and has stock.

Codes are customer-specific, single-use and valid for 30 days. They cannot be combined with other discounts.

4. Show the widget in your theme

Open Online Store → Themes → Customize. Add a Loyalty Trails app block to a supported homepage or cart template, or enable the floating app embed. Save the theme changes. Block placement depends on the theme’s support for app blocks.

Customers sign in to their store account to see their own progress and redeem available rewards.

5. Check progress and redemption

Enable the program after reviewing the settings. Paid-order events update eligible spending; refunds and cancellations adjust it. Points use the order’s discounted merchandise subtotal, excluding shipping. Leftover spending carries forward towards the next point.

Customers select an unlocked reward in the widget. The app creates a Shopify discount and applies it to the cart. For a gift, it also adds the selected variant. Always verify the checkout summary before placing the order.

If an order has not updated progress, contact support with the store domain and order number. Do not send card details, passwords or access tokens.

6. Pro: store-branded loyalty emails

Open Engagement in Loyalty Trails and follow the five-step setup. Install Shopify Flow and Shopify Messaging, verify your store's sender under Settings → Notifications, and complete any domain authentication requested by Shopify. A public Gmail sender uses Shopify's relay address. No Resend account is needed.

  1. Choose one of the four ready-to-copy templates in the app: first points, available reward, near the next reward, or winback.
  2. In Flow, select the released Loyalty Trails → Loyalty milestone trigger. Add an Event kind condition: first, reward, near or winback.
  3. Connect Send marketing email only to the condition's True branch. In Messaging choose Code your own, paste the matching template, and activate the email and workflow. Repeat for each desired type.
  4. Use your own consenting customer to test. Check the Flow run, Messaging result and received email before marking setup complete.

The app detects whether any matching Flow workflow is active. Checklist ticks do not install apps or enable sending. Shopify Messaging's allowances and charges are separate. Templates use Shopify-supported branding and links; custom Flow point-balance fields are not automatically inserted into Messaging emails. Customers see their current balance in the store widget.

App events are limited to one accepted message per customer per 24 hours. Winback becomes eligible after 30 days without another qualifying purchase. Consent, current reward eligibility and Pro access are checked again before submission; event acceptance is not proof of inbox delivery.

7. Pro: referrals

Enable referrals in Engagement and configure bonus points, the minimum qualifying amount and waiting period. An existing member shares their referral code; a new customer accepts it before the first order. A qualifying paid order starts the waiting period. Both members receive the configured bonus after verification; refunds can revoke it. Self-referrals and existing purchasing customers are not eligible.
